Job title: Registered Nurse Company: St. Bonaventure University (NY) Job description : Description Performs tasks and responsibilities within the scope of New York State RN-licensing law: triaging/evaluation, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care. Provides summer Health Services coverage for remaining campus-based student population. Collects, organizes, and verifies incoming undergraduate and graduate student immunization records as required by NYS law. Examples of Duties Provide RN-level nursing care to students and university employees in accordance with professional licensing guidelines and NYS laws. Responsibilities will include but not necessarily be limited to: Collecting initial information submitted electronically via the EMR or over the phone to triage or determine whether or not a patient is to come to Health Services; Rooming patients (when applicable) and obtaining vital signs; Conducting laboratory/testing procedures on-site or processing laboratory order paperwork; Timely and accurately document patient visit and/or laboratory information appropriately in the EMR. 55% Administer allergy injections, start IV-drips, other treatments based on Medical Services Provider direction. Provide information or health education and/or informational materials to as directed by the medical provider. 20% Process any information or communications that are received through the Health Portal: Immunization records, health history forms, consent and release of information requests, scan and appropriately store documents on the EMR, and provide reports and updates to the director. Understand how to scan and appropriately store documents on the EMR. 10% Answer phones, schedule student appointm5%ents, process student email inquiries or redirect them where appropriate to other staff. 5% Assist in making referrals to on or off-campus healthcare providers. Processes consent and release of information requests. 5% Provide report of patient information to the medical services provider and staff prior to, during, or following a patient care visit. 5% Supplemental Functions: Shares responsibility for the general upkeep of Student Health Services offices and patient rooms including appropriate sanitation/disinfection and disposal of medical waste in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) guidelines and local policy/procedures. Work collaboratively with all members of the Health Services Unit and, when applicable, with the Counseling Services staff. Work with staff on campus outreach events, which may require occasional late-evening hours. Competence in triaging medical conditions, prioritizing tasks in an inconsistent environment (with respect to volume). Ability to effectively and efficiently operate under fast-paced conditions, with the need to multi-task at times, while maintaining a calm, helpful, and approachable professionalism. Performs other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications RN-licensed and currently registered to practice in the State of New York. Maintain professional licensure requirements without being reminded including but not necessarily limited to licensure validation and continuing education requirements, where applicable. Two (2) years' work experience as a RN in Health or Occupational setting. Must have excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills. Must be proficient using computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Proficiency using electronic medical record systems. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Certification and/or Licensure RN-licensed and currently registered to practice in the State of New York. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to handle highly confidential material, understanding that all University information should only be disclosed to others who have a need to know, for legitimate business reasons. Have the ability to exercise and apply sound judgment and decision making skills as well as the ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of data. Must possess a clear understanding of HIPPA laws and confidentiality and protects the confidentiality of the student and his/her medical records. Possesses a solid knowledge of University rules and regulations and state and federal laws as necessary to perform assigned duties. Communicates philosophy and objectives of the Student Health Services to patients, families and other groups. Complete any NYS required continuing education and licensure renewal tasks without being reminded. (NOTE: The Center does not compensate for licensure costs, but may, at its discretion, compensate the employee for continuing education seminars/workshops, pending availability of funds. This is not guaranteed and each request will be considered independently.) Participate in the Center's staff development program: Attend seminars/workshops/talks given by the Medical Provider or other providers on campus; Help train the LPN's via refresher workshops or seminars on clinical topics, under the direction of the Medical Provider. Manage current and inactive charts (paper or electronic) in accordance with appropriate information management guidelines including chart assembly (scanning and documenting in the proper sections of the electronic chart), chart compliance with NYS standards and SBU policy, and shredding charts of alumni/inactive students per document management guidelines. Ability to balance priorities to accomplish assigned tasks within the required time frame and to be able to shift quickly between several tasks without loss of continuity. Ability to accept supervision, assignments, change and correction. Able to effectively communicate general information to University constituency, however, some situations may require the ability to relay complex or adverse information with tact and diplomacy. Proven effectiveness in dealing with a wide range of professionals, staff, and administrators. Carry out all responsibilities and objectives in a professional manner. Maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers while fostering positive working relationships. Accept and render constructive criticism in a professional manner.
